Right time
It was midnight. She was lost in the middle of the avenue, alone. Her phone battery was about to die. She did not care. She only knew one thing: it was the right time. The wish of rid of with all that situation came out of the blue. She picked up her phone. Twenty percent battery. She called him.
― Josh.
― Anne?
― Where are you?
― I’m home. What’s happening?
― I’m lost, Josh.
― What? Where are you?
― I’m in the street.
― Who are there with you?
― Me.
― What? Are you alone on the streets at midnight? Are you crazy?
― My battery is running out.
― For God’s sake! Where are you? Are you ok?
― We need to talk.
― Go home!
― I want to talk with you!
― Right, babe, but, please, go home now! It’s dangerous. Have you seen what time is it?
― Don’t care.
― Of course, it matters! You are alone on a street, in the middle of the night. Is everything ok?
― Yes, sure. Everything is ok. (silence)
― Anne?
― Yep.
― Go home.
― Josh, the truth is that I am not ok.
― I’m coming. Where are you? Look for a safe place and wait.
― No.
― I’m coming, but…
― No. I don’t want you to come.
― You’re not ok!
― My battery is low. I have to turn off the phone.
― Ann…
― Josh, I don’t want it anymore.
― What do you mean? I’m coming. Where are you?
― I’m good.
― You’re not good. Tell me where are…
― No. There’s no need, ok? I’m just calling you ‘cuz the only thing I’m sure at this time is that I don’t want anything from you.
― About what?
― About us. I don’t want us anymore. Ok?
― Send me your location.
― I can’t!
― What? Send me your location!
― I don’t have internet.
― For God’s sake! Stop it!
― Yes. Yes! I’ve stopped us.
― Anne…
― Josh…
― Anne… (silence)
― I am worried about you. Please, tell me where you are.
― I am… I am… I am where you will never be, right?
― What do you mean?
― I need to be where you aren’t.
― What?
― I am good without you.
― You must be crazy.
― Yes, I’m crazy.
― Where are you? I won’t ask you again!
― I’m far from you. I don’t want you anymore.
― Do you really think so? Do you want to do this by the phone? Do you thing it is the right time to do it?
― There’s no right time to do things. We didn’t have a right time to begin, so we don’t have the right time to end.
― You want an end? Like this… Out of the blue?
― The only thing I’m sure is that what I want has nothing to do with you.
― That’s enough! I’m coming!
― It’s no use insisting on this. You’ll never find me.
― I will look for you all over the city.
― You’ve never knew where I am.
― What?
― Yeah, you’ve never knew where I am. You’ve never knew from where I came and where I want to go.
― What are you talking about?
― Why are you surprised, Josh?
― Have you used drugs? (silence)
― Yeah, I’m drugged, but now I’m ridding of this drug. I’m ridding of you. That’s enough.
― Anne, my head is aching, full of problems… Everything I don’t need is a drama coming from you.
― And everything I don’t need now is you, Josh.
Anne turned off the phone. When she crossed the avenue, she stopped to look how much battery had her phone. The battery died. The bus came fast. Anne didn’t see it. Now she’s dead.
Josh turned off the phone. From the living room, he came back to his bedroom, kissed her wife and lay down. Now he’s fine.
